DS9 really shouldn’t be viewed in bits and pieces in random order. It doesn’t do the show justice.
There are far too many reoccuring characters, long running plot threads and unlike other Star Trek shows it doesn’t hit the reset button at the end of each episode.
Sure, there are stand-alone episodes, but even in many of those there are often hints of the overarcing stories like the dominion war.
I agree that Season 1 is weak, like in most shows, but it still lays the foundation for many of the story arcs and relationships and shouldn’t be skipped.
