    Guys-

Yes, the primary purpose of the deflector is to eliminate small objects in the path of the ship. This is demonstrated in a few episodes, the specific episodes I do npt have at hand.

Also, it is my understanding that warp drive actually WARPS space, therefore allowing fadtet than light travel.

As far as time travel goes, I am personally of the opinion that the presetermination theory of time travel is the most viable. This disagrees with a lot of the time travel episodes in star trek, or in fact, most sci-fi.
The predetermination theory of time travel states that the possibility of changing anything in the past is nill. Everything that happened has already happened.

Also- if you watch the rest of the story in enterprise, you will see that in the end soong contemplates the concept that an artificial life form would be more apt to reach the pentacle of human perfection that he seeks. He also states that the work will take several generations, and so it is hs son or grandson that actually createa Data, not the quasi-evil Soong featured in this episode.

Hope this is somewhat helpful. I am a big trek nerd, and I am currently involved in the project of re-watching every episode, this time in chronological order. I have just reached the end of Enterprise, and I am moving on to TOS. I will keep in touch and render my opinions if they are of any use to you.
